Did you know that Nov. 1 is World Vegan Day? Established in 1994, the day is a tribute to the many benefits of veganism for people and the planet. Whether you’re a longtime vegan, a newbie or an omnivore, World Vegan Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the plant-based diet and learn about the lifestyle. Savannah has several restaurants that offer delicious vegan options. If you’re vegan for life, or just vegan for the day, celebrate this special observance by dining at one of these vegan-friendly restaurants.
The Haunt
Opened in July 2021, The Haunt is a relative newcomer to Savannah’s culinary scene. But since opening, they’ve made a name for themselves, offering forest-to-table flavors that are unforgettable. Everything on the menu is 100% plant-based, and all of the dishes are thoughtful and inventive. Many of the meals are mushroom-focused, like the Porcini Banh Mi and the Sloppy Mane. So, if you love rich, earthy flavors, you’ll enjoy what The Haunt has to offer.
Fox & Fig Cafe
Brought to you by the good folks behind Foxy Loxy, Henny Penny and the Coffee Fox, Fox & Fig Cafe is a plant-based bistro serving up bold brunch bites and vegan specialty coffee drinks. Fox & Fig Cafe reimagines traditionally omnivorous dishes as innovative, toothsome vegan meals. Featuring house-made banana bread and authentic maple syrup, The Bananza French Toast will satisfy your sweet tooth. And with its carrot-cucumber-jalapeno mix, the Bowl of Plenty will excite your palate. Be sure to try one of their specialty cafe drinks with your meal. You’ll leave feeling full and energized.
Hungry Vegan
Hungry Vegan is Savannah’s only vegan soul food restaurant, and they truly are in a class of their own. Serving Southern comfort food favorites like mac and cheese, greens and meatloaf (minus the meat, of course), Hungry Vegan delivers big flavors that are completely plant-based. If you’re craving soul food that won’t compromise your vegan diet, Hungry Vegan is definitely where you want to be.
Kayak Kafe
With locations in midtown and downtown Savannah, Kayak Kafe is committed to serving up fresh, delicious and healthy options to its customers. While they are not exclusively vegan, Kayak Kafe offers a wide variety of plant-based options. The Tofu & Vegetable Burrito doesn’t disappoint, and their Vegan Tator Tot Nachos are a fan favorite. Find some time to enjoy the vegan options at Kayak Kafe soon.
The Sentient Bean
The Sentient Bean is a community-minded cafe serving up vegan and vegetarian bites. All of their food is thoughtfully sourced and their coffees are fair trade, so you can feel good about dining at the Bean, as it’s colloquially known. For a hearty meal, try the BBQ Wrap, which comes with marinated tofu, greens and roasted red pepper. And though it’s not always on the menu, their vegan Lasagna is downright delicious. Definitely catch it when you can.
Brighter Day
Neighboring The Sentient Bean, Brighter Day is a natural foods store with plenty of plant-based options. They have a deli with fresh smoothies and sandwiches available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Their Tastes Like Tuna Salad vegan sandwich is true to the name, and the Cucumber Hummus is another great option.
Put these vegan-friendly eateries on your dining bucket list and find time to visit them soon. You won’t regret it.
