The kiddos are going back to school, but we still have a few weeks of summer left. It will be a few months before we can expect cooler temperatures, so, why not use the rest of the summer to soak up as much sun as you can? There’s still plenty of time for fun beach days, and there are several beaches just a short drive away awaiting your presence. Pack up your beach bag, slap on the sunscreen, don your chicest sunnies and head to these beautiful beaches before summer ends.
Tybee Island
If you want to stay local, Tybee Island is the obvious choice. If you want a quieter, less crowded area, head to Back River Beach. But if you want to be in the heart of the action, South Beach is the beach for you. For an encounter with nature, kayak to Little Tybee and set up camp. Whatever kind of beach day you want to have, you can do it on Tybee.
Hilton Head
A little less local than Tybee, but still relatively close is Hilton Head’s Coligny Beach. There are some private beaches on Hilton Head, but Coligny Beach is open to the public. You can park nearby for free, peruse cute and quirky little shops along the way and enjoy the clean, pristine beach all day.
Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island is Georgia’s southernmost barrier island about an 1.5 hour drive away. The isle boasts tranquil, unspoiled beaches that are perfect for a chill day on shore with a good book. Driftwood Beach is scenic with beautiful trees that make for a nice photo-op. If you want to get active, you can enjoy a good stroll on Sharktooth Beach. It’s also a great site for scavenging.
Fernandina Beach
Fernandina Beach is about two hours away situated on the picturesque Amelia Island in Florida. It’s an eclectic area with a relatively quiet beach, making it a good choice for a secluded day getaway. The beach is also a top bird watching destination, so keep your eyes out to spot some special feathered friends.
Jacksonville Beach
Jacksonville is just a little over two hours away from Savannah with 22 miles of beaches ready to relish. The main public beaches include Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Mayport Beach and Atlantic Beach. All of these beaches are pet-friendly, making it the perfect place to enjoy sand, sea and sunshine with your four-legged friend.
